Dermot Herron graduated from the University of Cape Town with a degree in theoretical electrical engineering. This entailed studying maths and physics and some electrical engineering at university. He worked for the Rhodesian Telco in the 1970s in the design laboratory on automated long-distance dialing. He also worked on electronic farm telephone systems and became interested in audio amplifiers. Subsequently, he moved to technical computer programming.
