The Analog Discovery 2 is a USB oscilloscope and multi-function tool that gives users the ability to measure, visualize, generate, record and control different types of mixed-signal circuits. 

The board is small in size but offers enough power to replace a stack of lab equipment — giving the user the ability to work with analog and digital circuits in virtually any environment. 

With the addition of the BNC adapter and scope probes in the pro bundle, professional or experienced engineers can access the full 30MHz bandwidth oscilloscope and 12MHz bandwidth waveform generator.

What is WaveForms?

WaveForms is the Mac, Windows, and Linux compatible user interface for the Analog Discovery 2. It is a custom toolset that allows users access to the full functionality and enables the 13 available instruments with a UI designed with the look and feel of traditional benchtop equipment. Along with the standalone software application, WaveForms comes with the WaveForms Software Development Kit and built-in script editing to enable custom applications and automated test and measurement. The WaveForms Software Development Kit comes with C++ and Python libraries and examples, as well as forum support from the software developers themselves! The Script Editor can be accessed in the main WaveForms application, and allows for one or more instruments to be scripted in JavaScript. The Analog Discovery 2 is also supported by 3rd party software, including MATLAB and LabVIEW.

    I am a new (second year) Technology teacher at Hutchinson Technical High School, which is an inner city public school in Buffalo, NY. I also teach for a non-profit organization called BEAM (Buffalo Engineering Awareness for Minorities) who’s mission is to bring STEM based education to kids who are not normally exposed to the Sciences and Math. I am fresh from working in industry for 8 years as an Automation Control Panel Assembler and Technician. This year we are attempting to add new curriculum to our agenda. We have added a course in Digital Electronics for our seniors who are going on to study Electronics and Computer Science in college. The kids are excited and love learning about technology. Last year the district got the kids in this program laptops for use in the classroom and I have managed to get a budget that has allowed me to purchase 30 Arduino kits with sensors, some 555 timers along with some other logic gate IC’s, and some bread boards. The focus of the labs we will be doing is centered around building Breadboard circuits and then introducing them to how IC’s and Embedded systems operate. A lot of planning has gone into this and the kids are excited. Unfortunately, the only tools we have for analyzing their projects are some old muti-meters and about a dozen analog oscilloscopes that are literally from the 1980’s.  With this discovery bundle we would be able to show them so much more than we can with the limitations of the instruments we currently have in the classroom. They have never seen how a function generator works, and the advantages of a digital oscilloscope would allow them to take their analysis to a whole new level. If we win this give away I assure you that this wonderful piece of equipment will be put to very good use. It would be nice if when they go off to college that they will have had exposure to this grade of test equipment. They could use all of the advantages that they can get. Of course I am also excited as I read the capabilities of this kit. I love teaching and have a passion for electronics. Using it to teach my kids and do what I love most would bring us all years of productive learning. I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

    I have recently retired and decided to write a book on developing electronic circuits and control systems. This book would focus on techniques I have refined during my career to help developers, builders and makers (young and old) to explore and quickly evaluate possible solutions for their projects. There is an introduction to MicroPython, OpenSource development EDA tools, LTspice and an assortment of modular circuits that can kick start any design.  I have a 40 year old BK Precision 30MHz o-scope that has serves me well but for my book I would like to use the Diligent Analog Discovery 2 as my go-to solution because of incredible integration of so much lab bench power.  I believe this could be a great learning tool for young engineers and including the Diligent Analog Discovery 2 setup makes my book even more attractive for designing on a tight budget.  Hope you can help me on my book adventure.
