NCP81239 4-Switch Buck-Boost Controller
ON Semiconductor’s NCP81239 is a 4-switch buck-boost converter for use as a USB power delivery controller in computing and entertainment devices, displays, consumer electronics, and chargers. The NCP81239 has a 4.5 V to 28 V input and load range and drives 4 nMOSFET switches to provide the correct output voltage in either the provider or consumer role.
The controller uses two independent current sense inputs and dual edge current mode control to detect and smoothly transition between buck and boost operation. In addition to USB PD, the NCP81239 supports quick charge 2.0 and 3.0 profiles and uses a dynamically programmed switching frequency from 150 kHz to 1.2 MHz.
