Infrared Sensors Signal OEM Opportunities in Smart Home Market

Overview

Smart home devices, which help automate household systems and promote energy efficiency, are some of the most popular applications in the burgeoning Internet of Things (IoT) space.

At the heart of many of these devices is a new generation of infrared (IR) detection sensors. These sensors are essential for the operation of motion-detecting security cameras and safety lights that increase the general security of our living and working environments, and for presence-sensing applications that can promote energy efficiency.

These IR sensors provide the necessary information about the environment in real time to automatically activate and control the thermostat. By providing detailed thermal information about the room, even the heat of sunlight moving across and into windows may be calculated into the cooling or heating requirement.

When connected by the IoT, the functionality will become even more intelligent and convenient. The more complex and automated these functions become, the more sensory data input the electronic devices require from their operating environments – including temperature, motion, and human presence—to activate and interact appropriately.

In this white paper, explore how demand continues to surge, yet development expertise in sophisticated IR sensors remains limited.
