White Paper Overview

Soon we will see a lot more plug-in hybrid and battery electric vehicles (xEV) on our roads. Those can be charged either at home, at the office, or while shopping using on-board charging (OBC) solutions. OEMs must take into account various design priorities such as efficiency, size, safety, quality, weight and overall cost when making the shift to xEVs. Additionally, they are increasingly planning to support bi-directional power transfer to support powering consumer appliances, vehicle-to-home/vehicle-to-grid (V2G) applications and even jump-starting of other vehicles.

This white paper explores:

  • changing expectations of OBCs
  • how semiconductor technologies enable such designs
  • today's preferred power conversion topologies forming the basis
