Analog Devices ADE9153A Energy Metering ICs with Self Calibration

Analog Devices’ ADE9153A is an energy metering IC with self-calibration for single-phase energy measurement applications.

Traditional energy measurement ICs require complicated calibration using expensive, external reference-grade voltage and current sources. In contrast, the ADE9153A uses mSure technology to calibrate the system based on direct measurements of the signal path. This significantly reduces calibration time, labor, and equipment costs.

The ADE9153A incorporates three high-performance analog-to-digital converters, providing an 88 dB signal-to-noise ratio and a high-gain current channel.

Two current channel inputs with flexible gain stages and one voltage channel for a complete power measurement. Each input channel supports independent and flexible gain stages. Current Channel A is ideal for shunts, having a flexible gain stage and providing full-scale input ranges from 62.5 mV peak down to 26.04 mV peak. Current Channel B has gain stages of 1×, 2×, and 4× for use with current transformers, to support smaller shunt values in higher current applications. A high-speed, 10 MHz, serial peripheral interface port allows access to the ADE9153A registers.

The ADE9153A offers an advanced metrology feature set of measurements like line voltage and current, active energy, fundamental reactive energy, and apparent energy calculations. The ADE9153A also includes power quality measurements such as 1/2-cycle RMS, DIP/Swell detection, and more.

Products engineered to use the ADE9153A can self calibrate during production, bypassing the need to build, maintain, and deploy precision calibration racks on the production floor.
