ANALOG DEVICES INC. Dual-Mode Ka-Band Upconverter

Analog Devices ADMV4530 Dual-Mode Ka-Band Upconverter offers an integrated high-performance fractional-N PLL and high output power to simplify design and improve performance compared to a discrete design, making it ideal for satellite communications.

The ADMV4530 upconverts signals to a 27GHz to 31GHz output range.  \It has a low phase noise, fractional-N PLL with a VCO and 2x multiplier to generate an on-chip LO and eliminate the need for external frequency synthesis. This integration results in improved error vector magnitude, and the VCO autocalibration routine locks the PLL in approximately 100µs. The PLL reference input operates at up to 500MHz and has integrated dividers and a multiplier for greater flexibility.

The ADMV4530’s IQ mixer supports direct upconversion from a complex I/Q baseband with 500MHz bandwidth. It can also operate in IF mode up to 3GHz to support various architectures and legacy systems. The output stage includes multiple gain stages and variable attenuation blocks, providing an output with a 19dBm minimum 1dB compression point, further reducing external component count and simplifying the design.

The ADMV4530 houses all of this functionality in a 40 terminal 6mm x 6mm LGA package and is rated for operation from -40°C to +85°C. It also offers a 3-wire or 4-wire SPI interface to control programmable functions, with programmable baseband I/Q common-mode voltage and programmable automatic IF gain control available.
