COILCRAFT High Power PoE Signal Path Magnetics

Coilcraft High Power PoE Signal Path Magnetics provide designers a simple method of implementing PoE+ with gigabit ethernet connections.

Power over Ethernet carries power on the same ethernet cable used to carry data and reduces the time, expense, and space of a separate power connection, while also providing the benefits of centralized power management.  PoE uses magnetics for two functions: power is injected onto the signal path using center-tapped 1:1 transformers, and common mode chokes are used to filter out EMI.

Coilcraft’s high power PoE signal path magnetics meet current requirements for Gigabit Ethernet PoE Plus and simplifies implementation on both the power sourcing equipment and on powered devices.  By working with the HPX2126L and HPF2187L, designers need only 6 capacitors to complete the circuit design and it can be easily tuned to work with virtually any chipset.

The HPX2126L isolation transformer is actually two isolation transformers in a 14.22 by 15.75 by 10.80 millimeter package that fits directly behind the ethernet jack and provides 1500 volt RMS isolation between primary and secondary.  Its open circuit inductance is greater than 350 microhenries with up to 35 milliamps of DC offset at up to 70 degrees Celsius.  It can handle current up to 800 milliamps and has a max of 0.24 ohms DCR per winding.

The HPF2187L common mode choke houses two common mode chokes in a tiny 5.5 by 7.8 by 3.5 millimeter package.  Inductance is rated at 10 microhenries and DCR is a max of 0.15 ohms per winding.  To learn more about Coilcraft’s High Power PoE Signal Path Magnetics and how you can simplify implementing Gigabit Ethernet PoE Plus in your next design, visit Mouser.com
