Cypress EZ-BT WICED Dual-Mode Module Evaluation Board

Cypress Semiconductor offers the EZ-BT WICED Dual-Mode Module Evaluation Board, designed for evaluating and developing Bluetooth 5.0 applications with the Cypress EZ-BT WICED module.

The evaluation board is designed around the CYBT-343026-01 EZ-BT WICED Module, with all the necessary hardware for evaluation. This includes a set of Arduino-compatible headers to add hardware using Arduino-compatible shields. On-board jumpers are available to configure VDD to 2.3, 3.3, or 3.6 V, with a separate jumper to measure supply current. There are additional switches and headers to facilitate user interaction and configure UART connections.

The EZ-BT WICED module itself is a Bluetooth 5.0 qualified dual-mode module in a cost-optimized 12 x 15.5 x 1.95 mm package that is designed for standalone operation. It’s based on the Cypress CYW20706 Bluetooth SoC, and also integrates a 24 MHz crystal oscillator and 512 KB of serial flash. The SoC includes an Arm Cortex-M3 and a full peripheral set, including an ADC, PWM, I2C host, SPI host and slave, PCM and I2S audio, as well as HCI and peripheral UART communication. It supports Bluetooth wideband speech and extended synchronous connections for enhanced voice quality, and it can handle up to 8 simultaneous BLE connections.

The module supports output power up to +12 dBm in Bluetooth classic mode and up to +9 dBm for Bluetooth Low Energy. The high power BLE design allows for communication at distances up to 200 m. This is complemented by the receiver being sensitive down to -93.5 dBm for classic and -96.5 dBm for BLE, and the receiver front-end architecture requires minimal off-chip filtering for a simpler design in most applications. In deep sleep mode, the module consumes just 2.69 µA of current. To help developers reduce time to market, the module is Bluetooth SIG listed with QDID and Declaration ID, and it’s certified for use in the US, Canada, Europe, and Japan.
