Cypress Semiconductor EZ-PD Barrel Connector Replacement
Cypress Semiconductor’s EZ-PD Barrel Connector Replacement kit allows designers to quickly convert designs powered with a legacy barrel connector or USB micro-B to being powered via USB-C.
The EZ-PD BCR kit is based on the EZ-PD BCR IC, which is a highly-integrated and pre-programmed USB-C port controller that is USB PD 3.0 certified and supports Programmable Power Supply mode. A rotary switch on the board adjusts the output voltage from 5V to 20V, while resistor dividers set the current limit and can be adjusted to supply up to 5A for power delivery up to 100W.
The IC is housed in a 24-pin QFN package and requires minimal external components, with the kit PCB measuring just 3.7cm x 2.5cm.
