Intel® L515 RealSense™ LiDAR Camera

The Intel RealSense LiDAR Camera L515 is a high resolution and low power lidar in a compact package that’s designed to enable 3D sensing with millimeter accuracy in all new applications.

The camera provides depth sensing and vision processing in a single device.  The camera uses an IR laser and an advanced MEMS mirror to scan the scene.  This approach reduces laser pulse power for high efficiency and longer battery life.  Power consumption is rated at less than 3.5W and is lower than alternative systems based on time-of-flight sensing.  The Intel RealSense LiDAR Camera L515 can measure 23 million depth points per second, generating a depth stream up to 1024 x 768 at 40 frames per second and cable of measuring from 25cm to 9m.  The high resolution and accuracy enable depth edge fidelity that is superior to stereo sensor solutions.

The Intel RealSense LiDAR Camera L515 integrates additional sensors to enable a wide range of use cases and simplify system integration.  A full HD, 30 frames per second RGB camera provides a video feed that can have depth data overlaid, and a Bosch IMU provides motion tracking capabilities.

The camera also has an integrated vision processor that provides calculated depth data, the RGB sensor stream, and IMU data to the host over a USB-C connection, which also powers the device.  It allows a depth exposure time of less than 100 ns per point to minimize motion blur even with fast moving objects, and it provides a short photon-to-depth latency for use in real-time applications.

The Intel RealSense SDK 2.0 provides development support and is available for Windows and Linux.  The SDK includes a viewer, depth quality tool, debug tools, examples, and wrappers for many languages and environments, and the camera itself measures just 61mm in diameter with a 26mm deep enclosure.  For more information on Intel’s compact and efficient RealSense LiDAR Camera L515, visit Mouser.com
