Maxim’s MAX17290 and MAX17292 PWM Boost Controllers are highly efficient synchronous step-up controllers with a wide input voltage range and input transient protection.

This New Product Brief (NPB) is part of a video series highlighting the features, applications, and technical specs of newly-released products.

MAX17290 and MAX17292 PWM Boost Controllers

Maxim’s MAX17290 and MAX17292 PWM Boost Controllers are highly efficient synchronous step-up controllers with a wide input voltage range and input transient protection. The controllers can be implemented with all ceramic capacitors, leading to a smaller, lower cost solution and are ideal for distributed supply regulation, point-of-load applications, offline power supplies, and telecom hardware. They include a 9 ms soft-start to reduce inrush current, spread-spectrum capability to reduce EMI, a sync input, a reference pin that can be used to change the output voltage on-the-fly, and a pin that can be used for 180° out-of-phase sync output or as an overvoltage protection input with the level set using a resistor-divider.

  • Input Voltage: 4.5 V to 36 V, 42 V transient protection
    • Bootstrapped mode extends input to 2.5 V
  • Peak Efficiency: >90%
  • Low Shutdown Current: 4 µA
  • FSW: 100 kHz to 1 MHz (MAX17290) or 1 MHz to 2.5 MHz (MAX17292)
  • Packages: 3 mm x 3 mm TQFN-12 and 10-pin µMAX
