This New Product Brief (NPB) is part of a video series highlighting the features, applications, and technical specs of newly-released products.

NXP Semiconductors 32-Bit Arm Cortex-M Microcontrollers

NXP S32K ISELED 32-bit Arm Cortex-M microcontrollers support ISELED, a new communication protocol for controlling smart LED modules in automotive and industrial lighting applications.

The S32K ISELED MCUs include a production license for the ISELED software driver and is supported in the S32 Design Studio IDE. The driver supports the FlexIO and LPSPI interfaces, for fast, low-overhead communication.

The protocol allows the MCU to control up to 4079 LEDs at video speed, with data stored in the LED driver to offload brightness and color stability control from the MCU.

NXP offers six automotive-qualified S32K ISELED MCU families, with Arm® Cortex®-M0+ or Cortex-M4F processors in packages from 32 to 144 pins.

  • Custom ISELED part numbers include production license for software driver
  • Communication using FlexIO and LPSPI
    • Fast, low CPU overhead
  • ISELED protocol: address up to 4079 LEDs at video speed
  • Offloads brightness and color stability control from MCU
  • Six automotive-qualified, Arm Cortex-M0+/M4F based MCU families
  • Packages: 32QFN to 144LQFP
