This New Product Brief (NPB) is part of a video series highlighting the features, applications, and technical specs of newly-released products.

ROHM’s BD71815AGW PMIC for Battery Powered Systems combines multiple power functions in a single package to simplify power system design in wearables, media players, and other portable devices. The IC integrates 5 high-efficiency buck converters, 8 LDOs, a 25 mA LED boost driver, a single-cell linear battery charger, and a coulomb counter for battery fuel gauging. The buck converters automatically switch between PWM and PFM modes to maximize efficiency under all load conditions, and they have a 6 MHz switching frequency that allows for smaller and cheaper inductors and capacitors. The BD71815AGW combines all of this functionality in a 55-ball 4 by 4 by 0.62 mm chip-scale package to more easily integrate into small applications.

  • 5 buck converters: 3 1000 mA, 1 800 mA, 1 500 mA
  • 8 LDOs: 3 general purpose, 5 peripheral-specific
  • LED Driver: 25 mA
  • Battery charger: Single-cell Li-ion
  • Buck operation: PWM/PFM (auto-switching), 6 MHz fixed fSW
  • Package: UCSP55M4C, 4.0 mm x 4.0 mm x 0.62 mm
