This New Product Brief (NPB) is part of a video series highlighting the features, applications, and technical specs of newly-released products.

Wolfspeed 650V Silicon Carbide (SiC) Schottky Diode

Wolfspeed 650V Silicon Carbide Schottky Diodes have zero reverse recovery, can operate at high frequencies, and are ideal for switch-mode power supplies, boost diodes in PFC or DC/DC stages, AC/DC converters, and inverter free-wheeling diodes.

The diodes are rated for 16A continuous forward current at 147°C and can be used in parallel without going into thermal runaway. They’re able to switch extremely fast, have virtually zero switching losses, and switching behavior is unaffected by temperature changes.

Wolfspeed’s 650V Silicon Carbide Schottky Diodes allow designers to operate at higher frequencies and increase efficiency while reducing heat sink requirements, resulting in a smaller and lighter design.

  • Continuous forward current: 16A at 147°C
    • DC Blocking Voltage: 650V
    • Power dissipation: 173W @ 25°C
  • Parallel Devices Without Thermal Runaway
  • Extremely fast switching with essentially no switching losses
    • Temperature-Independent Switching Behavior
  • High-Frequency Operation
  • Higher Efficiency
  • Reduction of Heat Sink Requirements
    • Smaller and lighter design
