In addition to single pixel versions, the D6T family of thermal IR sensors includes matrix type sensors that are critical to effective human temperature scanning.  Each pixel in an IR sensor will output the average temperature of everything within that pixel’s field of view.  For sensors with a single pixel, this means the output will be the average temperature of the person and background objects. 

 

While single pixel sensors are being used for fever detection, many systems may see a benefit from using matrix-type sensors.  With the multiple pixels in a matrix-type sensor, such as 4x4 type, it’s easy to separate the person being measured from the background and ensure accurate temperature measurement.
