GaN – It’s All About Efficiency

The mantra at Power Integrations is efficiency. Higher efficiency means greater power in a smaller pace. Less heat is generated meaning fans and heatsinks can be reduced or eliminated. Last year we talked about how Gallium Nitride (GaN) would become ubiquitous for a huge range of applications, including consumer products such as chargers. Now we are seeing charger makers advertising that their products are using GaN. This is unprecedented.

This Fireside Chat will be a free-wheeling discussion covering topics including: What ‘Efficiency’ really means;  how GaN allows increased switch conductivity without the penalty of increased switch capacitance; how GAN is commercially beneficial for consumer product manufacturers; eWaste and the ‘out-of-the-box’ experience; the effectiveness of energy labels; safety mandates; and whether we will ever get to the zero-load / energy-neutral home.
