Offline Power Solutions for the Smart Home & Adapter-Free Charging

Smart home products continue to evolve rapidly with the proliferation of wireless connectivity and the Internet of Things (IoT). Devices such as smart speakers with voice assistants and AI, wall outlets with Type-C USB PD ports, smart AC plugs with energy monitoring, and connected light switches are becoming ubiquitous and may cause significant increases in home power consumption if not managed efficiently.

In many cases, power management is fundamental to ensuring that the end-product meets the strict limits for standby or no-load consumption set by international regulations. For example, the European Commission (EC) standard for Home Appliances (1275) requires equipment to consume no more than 0.5W in standby or in off mode, and ENERGY STAR’s version 1.1 for Smart Home Energy Management Systems (SHEMS) limits standby consumption of smart lighting control devices to 0.5 W.
