Omron’s IoT Module: Advancements in Weather Sensing and Data Transfer

In partnership with Omron

Today’s ever-changing world is forcing industries to make big moves in how they are able to perform day to day operations. With such radical changes in today’s way of life over the past few years, more focus needs to be placed on saving resources and finding ways to create more efficiency. Omron’s engineers are working hard in developing new sensing modules capable of transmitting data quickly and easily, while offering cost-competitive options and reliability for the industrial sector.

One of the most valuable tools a manufacturer has on their hands is data. Collecting information that can alert users of exactly how current operations are performing, conditions of surrounding environments, and any changes in nearby activity can offer key data points that will help optimize performance and reduce overall cost and maintenance. Omron recognizes the growing need for streamlined data collection, and has kept that in mind as it continues development of the next great lineup of products.

The Internet of Things

A widening classification of products to assist in this data collection is known as The Internet of Things (IoT). IoT essentially is a categorization of products that contain components such as sensors, processing power, software, and other devices that can help transfer data remotely across a public or privatized network. Over the past several years, Omron has dedicated itself to creating state of the art products to assist in data collection, especially relating to smart city, building maintenance, and agricultural industries.

Weather Sensor

The Omron Weather Sensor is an upcoming module equipped with various sensing functions designed to collect key weather characteristics for outdoor applications, particularly useful in the agriculture sector. With the fluctuating climate, resource management is becoming more and more vital to tending for and growing the best quality crops. Droughts in many areas of the world especially make water management a crucial element to effective and smart agriculture.

Omron’s Weather Sensor Module includes several sensing functions. The rainfall sensor can detect and track rainfall patterns over a time to ensure that farmers can effectively manage the amount of water crops are getting, saving vital resources. Temperature and humidity sensors gather key data necessary for healthy plant growth. As wind can greatly affect crop conditions, the wind speed and wind direction sensors also are vital to reading the finer details of what conditions are experiencing. All of these sensing functions are paired with communication modules and Omron’s own software to transmit data remotely to a central database, allowing for quick access to crucial weather data.

Webinar

Omron’s upcoming webinar in October will detail some of the key advantages offered by their IoT module and various sensing devices, and share more details in the development of these products. Cary Horan, Business Development Manager, will cover the advantages these products can offer within the IoT space and Agriculture Industry. During this hour-long webinar, discussions will include:

  • An overview of the Internet of Things
  • An Introduction to the Omron IoT module
  • An overview of various sensors and modules being developed by Omron, including the weather sensor and the RGB Oil Quality Sensor
