Industrial Automation: An Introduction to ON Semiconductor’s IoT Development Kit

November 07, 2017 by onsemi Download PDF

As a design electrical engineer, proficiency with electrical engineering fundamentals requires you to know how to design and build the once-simple (“dumb”) products. But now, given this new—although it's not so new anymore—technology evolution, you are expected to connect various simple products together and make them "smart." In essence, you are on the path to becoming a systems expert.

Starting a brand-new design from scratch brings its own set of challenges. That's why it's helpful to leverage existing, proven designs. This includes firmware, hardware, connectivity, schematics, PCB layout, and test, validation, and prototyping methodologies. In an effort to help designers meet the growing needs and demands of today's connected smart systems, ON Semiconductor created a single rapid-prototyping platform called the IoT Development Kit (IDK). This kit helps bring new solutions to market quickly and efficiently, without having to start from scratch. In other words, when using the IDK, you won't be burdened with schematic capture and layout concerns, or using valuable time for assembling, testing, and troubleshooting your new designs. Instead, the IDK provides you with a development platform to quickly, confidently, and efficiently get started on your next IoT design.
