Motor Control Systems: Effective Shortcuts for a Daunting Task

January 25, 2018 by onsemi Download PDF

Designing a motor control system consists of more than bringing electricity to your chosen set of motors, and deciding which flavor of electricity to use—AC or DC. If it's AC, you must also consider power factor correction (PFC) options with the goal of effectively and efficiently using the AC power, but you also have to worry about communications (USB, Ethernet, RS–232), power feedback, memory, optoisolators, transformers, power reduction and savings, I/O interface and protections, and more.

ON Semiconductor has designed an interactive block diagram—let's call it a shortcut—for:

  1. viewing the motor control system at a high level,
  2. providing recommendations for your components, and
  3. giving you a vast library of videos for additional information and demonstrations.
