Fabio Mello Fabio Mello looks back on roughly 20 years of experience in designing and developing aluminum electrolytic capacitors at TDK. During this time, he has supported the design-in activities of customers from the automotive market and gained deep insights into the market's requirements. Fabio holds a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, UFRGS Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil).

Optimization of DC Link Capacitor Bank in OBC Applications through Thermal Management

In partnership with TDK Electronics

The electrification of automobiles is creating new requirements at system and component level. The development towards fast charging systems requires onboard chargers with high power in the range of more than 11 kW. Under these circumstances, stringent design requirements demand compact and reliable DC link capacitor banks. Early consideration of the capacitor bank design and its integration into the system leads to advantages in terms of the resulting bank. Depending on the base cooling conditions, a significant increase in ripple current capability and/or useful life can be achieved compared to natural convection. Consequently, a more compact capacitor bank solution is achieved.
