Würth Launches Development Kit for Isolated Power Supplies

Würth Elektronik’s SN6507 Development Kit offers a complete, EMI-compliant platform for evaluating and customizing isolated power supplies in industrial and medical applications.

News May 29, 2025 by Joshua Tidwell

Isolated power supplies are essential for protecting low-voltage circuits, breaking ground loops, and meeting regulatory requirements in high-reliability applications. However, designing them efficiently requires careful coordination of transformer driver selection, magnetics design, thermal management, and EMI compliance. Engineers often face long development cycles as they source components, assemble test circuits, and iterate designs.

To address this complexity, Würth Elektronik has introduced the SN6507 Development Kit, a fully integrated evaluation platform developed in collaboration with Texas Instruments (TI). Based on the TI SN6507 transformer driver, the kit features Würth Elektronik’s WE-PPTI transformer series and is designed for isolated power development across a wide range of use cases.

Purpose-Built Boards for Comprehensive Evaluation

The kit includes two evaluation boards and 16 transformer samples, allowing engineers to conduct both fixed-configuration testing and customizable evaluations depending on design needs.

  • Board 1 (650796): This board comes pre-configured with a 24V input to 15V output topology using the WE-PPTI transformer 750319696. This plug-and-play option allows engineers to quickly validate performance metrics such as efficiency, thermal behavior, and EMI compliance. The fixed design eliminates early-stage setup challenges and enables immediate system-level testing.

  • Board 2 (650700): This board offers a configurable layout and gives engineers full flexibility to swap in various transformers, adjust output voltage configurations, and assess a broader range of electrical parameters, which is especially useful for applications with unique voltage rails, tighter size constraints, or specific isolation requirements. The board layout is designed to support straightforward integration of the included transformers and allow access to key nodes for signal probing and thermal analysis.

Together, these boards cover both standard and advanced evaluation needs, from quick concept validation to detailed optimization.

Broad Transformer Selection for Design Flexibility

The inclusion of 16 WE-PPTI transformer samples makes the SN6507 Development Kit uniquely comprehensive. These are optimized for use with TI’s SN6507 and provide multiple form factors, isolation voltages, and power handling capabilities. All transformers in the kit are compatible with the configurable board and are engineered to maintain high isolation reliability in accordance with industrial and medical standards.

Optimized for High-Demand Applications

The SN6507 transformer driver is engineered for compact, high-efficiency isolated designs. It supports up to 1.5 W output with ±5% regulation, and offers integrated soft-start, thermal shutdown, and enhanced EMI performance through spread-spectrum modulation.

The development kit enables real-world evaluation of these features in the following application areas:

  • Industrial automation: Isolated power for PLCs, motor controllers, and IO modules
  • Medical devices: Safe isolation for patient-connected systems and diagnostics
  • Renewable energy: Power isolation for solar inverters and monitoring equipment
  • Communication interfaces: Power rails for isolated CAN, RS-485/RS-232, SPI, I²C systems
  • Factory networking: Electrically isolated nodes in distributed sensor and actuator networks

The kit’s boards are fully EMI-compliant to CISPR32 Class B, helping engineers achieve emissions targets and reduce time to certification.

Prototyping and Testing

This development kit removes the typical bottlenecks in isolated power design, transformer selection, EMI debugging, and system validation. By offering fixed and configurable platforms, pre-tested transformers, and layout best practices, the SN6507 Development Kit significantly shortens the prototyping phase. Whether for standalone DC-DC modules or embedded designs, this kit accelerates the transition from schematic to fully functioning, production-ready systems.
