Cosel Adds Four New, Open-Frame Power Supplies for Low-Power Applications

December 10, 2019 by Cabe Atwell

The four additions to the LHA series are said to be low-profile and compact, offering a range of 30-watts to 100-watts.

Japan-based electronics manufacturer Cosel has announced the release of four new open-frame, low-profile, compact LHA series of power supplies. The new series are targeted at industrial, energy, communications, and infrastructure applications.

The LHA30F, LHA50F, LHA75F, and LHA100F join Cosel’s existing LHA150F and LHA300F family rated for high-powered systems. Altogether, the LHA power supplies have an energy range from 30-watts to 300-watts, allowing them to cover a wide spectrum of solutions within those respective applications.

Key Specifications

According to Cosel, the power supplies have a typical efficiency of up to 90% on the high-line and 86% on the low-line, thanks to the latest power-switching technologies.

Cosel also claims that the new devices reduce noise and ripple levels with the integration of partial resonance technology. They are also capable of operating in a temperature range of -10°C to +70°C.

The LHA series can be mounted using any orientation to provide designers an additional level of flexibility. However, ambient temperatures and environments may be limiting factors.

Voltage

The new LHA series (LHA30-50-75-100F) of power supplies offer an input voltage range of 85VAC to 264VAC (single-phase) and comply with the safety standard input voltage range of 100VAC to 240VAC (50/60Hz).

The LHA30F is available in five output voltages—3.3V, 5V, 12V, 15V, and 24V—while the LHA50-75F is available in seven output voltages: 3.3V, 5V, 12V, 15V, 24V, 36V, and 48V.

The LHA100F is offered in six output voltages: 5V, 12V, 15V, 24V, 36V, and 48V, respectively.

It should be noted that standard products are delivered with factory-trimmed output voltages; however, the LHA100F can be outfitted with a potentiometer to adjust the voltage range if needed. The series have a 3,000VAC input to output isolation voltage, 2,000VAC input to ground, and 500VAC output to ground as well.

Package Sizes

The power supplies were also designed with limited space in mind, with each offering different dimensions and weight characteristics. The LHA30F measures at 50mm x 27mm x 87.5mm and weighs 100g maximum, while the LHA50F measures at 50mm x 27mm x 112mm and weighs 140g maximum.

The LHA75F comes in a 50mm x 27mm x 150mm package and weighs 190g maximum, and the LHA100F offers a footprint of 62mm x 27mm x 155mm and weighs 250g maximum.

Energy Efficiency and Current Protection

Because the optimized switching topology provides energy efficiency of up to 90%, the power supplies are capable of reducing energy consumption while operating at light loads or while in standby. This is because they automatically switch to an energy-saving mode through pulse modulation.

They also feature inrush current protection, over-current protection (automatic recovery when the default is removed), and over-voltage protection.

Notable Compliances

All of the LHA series are UL/EN62368-1 certified (audio, video, communications compliant), and built to simplify choices for system designers when selecting the appropriate power supply.

As noise can also be a factor depending on the application, the new LHA series comply with (PDF) FCC-B, VCCI-B, CISPR11-B, CISPR32-B, EN55011-B, and EN55032-B. Cosel also offers EMI/EMC filters type EAC-03-472 if further noise performance is required.

Cosel also notes that for applications requiring EN62477-1 (OVC III) certification, models LHA150F and LHA300F are available. As for the entirety of the LHA family of power supplies, all comply with the RoHS directive and are CE marked following the Low-Voltage Directive.

Additional Options

Cosel states additional options are available for specific applications:

  • option-C for a conformal coating for improved moisture resistance
  • option-G for a lower leakage current (0.15mA max)
  • option-J4 for input and output EP connectors
  • option-Y for an output voltage potentiometer

Multifunctional Applications

The LHA30-50-75-100F power supplies are suited for a range of applications, including measurement and analysis equipment, machine tools, and industrial robots, along with display equipment, semiconductor manufacturing equipment, and more.
