Embedded Systems and SBCs Debut at Embedded World North America
With AI-enabled IoT taking the embedded world by storm, more SBCs and embedded systems are coming to market.
Embedded World is often a launching pad for new products, and this year’s North American event was no exception. One technology we noticed in prevalence was single-board computers and platforms—with companies including Kontron, DFI, Advantech, and Aaeon joining the fray. In this roundup, we spotlight each of their releases that caught our eye at the show.
Kontron’s AI-Focused SBC
Kontron has introduced its 2.5”-SBC-AML/ADN, a single-board computer designed for AI-enabled IoT edge applications. The platform uses Intel's Atom x7000E, Core i3 N-series, and Intel N-series processors, featuring Intel UHD Graphics (Gen12) with up to 32 execution units. The company claims this architecture nearly doubles graphics performance compared to previous generations and enhances AI inference capabilities and real-time computing. It also supports multiple 4K displays at 60 fps with internal and external interfaces like DisplayPort and USB-C.

With in-band ECC-enabled LPDDR5 SDRAM running at 4,800 MHz and Intel I226 2.5 GbE LAN controllers, the board provides low-latency communication and optimized bandwidth. The system also supports time-sensitive networking (TSN) and Intel time-coordinated computing (TCC) for real-time responsiveness with microsecond-level accuracy.
The 2.5” SBC-AML/ADN features rugged design elements, including soldered eMMC storage options up to 128 GB and LPDDR5 memory. Operating temperature ranges from commercial to industrial (-40°C to 85°C) with continuous 24/7 functionality under harsh conditions. The board has wide power flexibility, with an input range of 9-V to 20-V DC and power consumption between 6 W and 15 W.
DFI Releases a Mini-ITX Motherboard
DFI recently launched a new motherboard platform, the RPS101/RPS103 series.
The board works with 12th-, 13th-, and 14th-generation Intel Core processors with LGA 1700 sockets and integrates Intel R680E, Q670E, or H610E chipsets. It also supports processors with up to 24 cores and a TDP of 65 W. This flexibility enables configurations that range from high-performance Intel Core i9 CPUs to more energy-efficient i3 models. The board offers dual-channel DDR5 SODIMM memory with speeds of up to 5,600 MHz, accommodating up to 64 GB of RAM.

Intel UHD Graphics 700 series drives graphics performance, enabling hardware-accelerated 3D rendering and video processing, with compatibility with DirectX 12, OpenGL 4.6, and Vulkan 1.2. The system simultaneously allows up to four displays, utilizing HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort++, USB Type-C, and eDP/LVDS connections. Expansion options include PCIe Gen 5.0 x16 slots, M.2 connectors for both storage and wireless modules, and support for SATA 3.0 interfaces.
Advantech Shows Off a Digital Signage Player
Advantech's new DS-086 is a digital signage player that supports high-definition multimedia content on 4K and 8K displays.
Advantech optimized the DS-086's slim 22-mm profile for compact spaces without sacrificing performance. An Intel Core Ultra 125H SoC powers the device, which is also equipped with Intel's Arc graphics. The player's architectural design includes versatile AV input and output interfaces, such as USB 3.0 and RS232 connections, and four HDMI ports, enabling it to handle configurations such as a 4K TV wall.

The 2.5Gb LAN port ensures seamless real-time data streaming, while the integrated Intel’s OpenVINO Toolkit affords AI-enhanced capabilities.
Aaeon Unveils Multi-Touch Panel PCs
Aaeon recently launched two new panel PCs powered by Intel N-series processors.
The ACP-2076 is a 7" WSVGA panel PC that features a 1024 x 600 TFT LCD display with a projected capacitive multi-touch interface. It integrates Intel processors N50 or N97 with a fanless design to reduce noise and improve reliability. The system supports DDR5 memory up to 32 GB for high-speed data handling, while two 2.5-GbE Ethernet ports enable fast networking. The device offers I/O options, including USB 3.2, USB 2.0, HDMI, and DB-9 for RS-232/422/485, meeting industrial connectivity requirements. The unit features a wide temperature range of -5°C to 50°C and offers shock and vibration resistance.

The ACP2106 is a 10" WXGA solution that supports the same Intel N50 or N97 processors but offers improved resolution and a larger multi-touch interface than the 7" variant. The panel includes two 2.5-GbE Ethernet ports and several I/O ports, such as USB 3.2, USB 2.0, and HDMI. With support for up to 32 GB of DDR5 memory, this fanless system is optimized for low-power, high-performance applications. Its IP65-rated front bezel and aluminum chassis make it robust for industrial environments.
