U-blox’s New Wi-Fi 6E Module Steps Up When the Airwaves Get Crowded
U-blox built the tri-band Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4 module for secure, high-throughput industrial IoT applications.
U-blox has introduced the Jody-W6, a compact host-based module that combines tri-band Wi-Fi 6E and Dual-Mode Bluetooth connectivity for industrial and IoT applications. Built on NXP’s IW623 chipset, the module targets environments where network congestion, security requirements, and data throughput demands are increasing simultaneously.

The Jody-W6 adds tri-band Wi-Fi 6E support across 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz, along with Bluetooth LE Audio and integrated hardware-based security. It combines higher throughput, access to less congested spectrum, and built-in security features to support current wireless and cybersecurity requirements in industrial and IoT systems.
Tri-Band Wi-Fi 6E Targets Congestion and Capacity Limits
The Jody-W6 supports the 6 GHz band, along with 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, giving it access to additional spectrum compared to earlier Wi-Fi designs. It supports Wi-Fi 6E with 2x2 MIMO and concurrent operation, with data rates up to about 1.2 Gbit/s in the 5-GHz and 6-GHz bands.

The Jody-W6 will also use features like OFDMA and higher spectral efficiency to handle multiple devices simultaneously with lower latency, making it better suited for dense deployments where consistent throughput and reliable connections matter.
Security Built for Modern Industrial Requirements
The Jody-W6 will also include integrated security features, such as secure boot and NXP’s EdgeLock hardware-based security platform, as well as support for WPA3 and AES-based encryption. This will help users protect data at both the device and network levels while reducing the need for additional external security components. This approach supports current cybersecurity requirements in industrial and IoT systems where secure communication and device integrity are expected.
Performance, Interfaces, and Integration Flexibility
The Jody-W6 supports PCIe and SDIO for Wi-Fi, along with UART, PCM, and I2S for Bluetooth and audio. It can connect to a range of embedded systems that run Linux or Android. The Jody-W6 includes Dual-Mode Bluetooth with support for Bluetooth 5.4, which adds LE Audio, long-range operation, and data rates up to 2 Mbit/s. Because the module can handle Wi-Fi and Bluetooth at the same time, it may be useful for systems that need both data connectivity and audio.
The module keeps a compact footprint at about 15.6 mm × 19.8 mm and remains pin-compatible with existing Jody modules, so upgrading from earlier designs doesn’t require a full hardware redesign. That kind of compatibility makes it easier for developers to move to Wi-Fi 6E while keeping their existing layouts largely intact.
What It Adds to the Jody Portfolio
Compared to earlier Jody modules, the Jody-W6 adds tri-band Wi-Fi 6E, higher throughput, and improved coexistence between Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, making it a more capable option for newer industrial and IoT designs. It also brings updated Bluetooth features such as LE Audio, along with stronger built-in security. The module is offered in multiple variants with two or three antenna connections, and is available in both professional and automotive-grade versions.

Depending on the model, it can operate from -40°C to +85°C, with some versions extending to +105°C for harsher environments. U-blox is also supporting the module with evaluation kits and an M.2 option, which should make development and integration a bit easier for teams moving into Wi-Fi 6E designs.
Applications Across Industrial and Connected Systems
U-blox designed the Jody-W6 for applications that require reliable, high-throughput wireless communication in challenging environments. This includes industrial automation systems, smart building infrastructure, healthcare devices, and network equipment.
It is also suited for use cases such as video streaming, multi-client connectivity, and in-vehicle infotainment systems, where multiple wireless standards must operate simultaneously without interference. The ability to function as an access point, a station, or a peer-to-peer device further enhances its flexibility in system design.
