Dr. Amar Gupta has worked at MIT for most of his career, where he has done original work in multiple areas, including:

His work has often extended beyond technology to overcome organizational and political challenges that would otherwise prevent adoption.

Dr. Gupta has published 12 books and served as an advisor to the World Bank, the World Health Organization, and agencies of the United Nations. He has mentored several startups established by his former students. Many of these companies, like the Khan Academy, have achieved wide international success.

Dr. Gupta holds an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, a graduate degree in Management from MIT, and a doctorate in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi.
