This Featured Product Spotlight is part of a video series exploring the specifications, applications, and market context of new products.

Panasonic's PAN1026A Bluetooth module is a dual mode Bluetooth 4.2 module for use in a wide range of applications, such as electronic logging, gaming, and industrial devices. It's fully integrated and pre-certified, and it requires no RF expertise from the designer. It's also backward compatible with the PAN1026, but it adds some new features and enhancements.

One of the biggest advantages of the PAN1026A is its ease of use. It integrates an on-chip antenna, a 26 MHz crystal, and EEPROM, and it uses a 32 kHz clock to conserve power during extended sleep periods. The module is based on Toshiba's TC35661-551, and the EEPROM stores the MAC address and can be used to store link keys. The module's provided with an easy to use SDK and high-level API commands to reduce development time. It has FCC, IC, and CE modular approval to reduce certification time and cost. It also has an embedded Bluetooth SIG certified stack, with support for BT basic rate serial port profile, as well as GATT and BLE services.

The PAN1026A has a number of features that increase throughput and lower power consumption. These include an extended MTU size, which is increased from 64 bytes to 160 bytes. This larger MTU effectively lowers overhead data. It also has fast SPP connection and disconnection times, as well as an improved packet error rate for BLE. All of these lead to faster, more efficient data exchange. Transmit power can be controlled up to +4 dBm, and receive sensitivity is improved to -88 dBm. The module also supports LE secure connections with ECDH public key cryptography, and it offers extended GATT functionality for more complex BLE profiles.

The module measures just 15.6 x 8.7 x 1.9 mm and has an industrial operating temperature of -40°C to +85°C. For more information on the PAN1026A Bluetooth module, the USB evaluation kit, and the experimenter kit, visit Mouser.com.
