Winbond OctalNAND

Fast boot loaders for autonomous driving systems and instrument panel displays, AI training model and database storage systems, and over-the-air programming updates for gaming and other embedded systems all have one thing in common - an ever-growing need for more Flash memory operating at consistently increasing data rates with higher densities.

At densities above 512 Mbits, NOR Flash typically provides the highest data rates but is expensive. NAND Flash provides lower costs and higher densities.

Now, Winbond’s OctalNAND Flash is breaking new ground at high densities and high data throughput rates.

Over the years, NOR Flash memories have evolved to a common Serial interface.

NOR flash began with a parallel interface, followed by a quad serial interface, and then an 8-bit serial interface.

Likewise, NAND Flash memories have followed the same path in interface evolution as NOR Flash.

Today, Winbond is the first to deliver OctalNAND Flash with an 8-bit serial interface that is fully compatible with the standard 8-bit NOR Flash hardware interface.

By incorporating the 8-bit wide data bus width and a maximum of 12 active signal pins, Winbond’s OctalNAND Flash products can pack high-performance memories into a small footprint, 24-pin BGA package which is pin-to-pin compatible with serial NAND Flash.

Winbond’s OctalNAND Flash is the highest read throughput NAND Flash and is optimized for embedded applications.

It provides a fast 240 MB/s alternative for high density code storage memory without having to pay the premium cost of NOR Flash.

Other advantages of OctalNAND Flash over standard NOR Flash include:

  • Higher densities from 1-4 Gbits
  • Operation at automotive grade temperatures
  • A 96% reduction in program and erase time
  • A 50% reduction in cost

Winbond OctalNAND Flash is ready to meet the demands of automotive, OTA, AI, and gaming console applications that require frequent, large, code and data updates.

High density, high speed, and low cost - you really can have it all with Winbond’s OctalNAND Flash.
