This episode of Tech Specs is part of a video series highlighting the features, applications, and technical specs of newly-released products.

Honeywell MicroForce FMA Series

Honeywell's MicroForce FMA series are piezoresistive-based force sensors in a tiny surface mount package.

The sensors are offered with full-scale force spans of 5, 15, or 25 newtons and they are fully calibrated and temperature compensated for all errors, providing a plus or minus 2 percent full scale span accuracy. The sensor has a stainless sphere that can easily interface with tubing, membranes, or plungers and delivers enhanced repeatability.

The FMA series outputs readings with 12-bit resolution and can easily interface to a host controller with a SPI- or I2C-compatible digital output, with multiple I2C addresses available to place multiple sensors on the same bus.

  • Small form factor: 5mm x 5mm
  • Full scale span: 5N, 15N, 25N
  • Fully calibrated and temperature compensated over a temperature range of 5°C to 50°C
  • Accuracy: ±2%FSS typical
  • Stable, stainless steel sphere: easy interfacing, enhanced repeatability
  • Digital output: 12-bit, SPI- or I2C compatible interface
